I can't believe how the media has sensationalized the Dell Laptop Battery Explsion.
The New York Times made the battery explosion problem look like a firey explosion that could burn down the house.
NBC added that HP and Lenovo (formerly IBM's notebook division) notebooks could also be at risk.
ABC added that the TSA could ban notebook computers because the battery could explode on the airplane (highly unlikely considering the computer must be powered on!)
At any rate, it is all a bunch of OVERHYPED BULLOCKS!
From experience, my main computer is a notebook. At times I leave my notebook online overnight sometimes to complete a software upgrade or even for days at a time.
I have another computer that is a SONY notebook, using a SONY battery (which was also metioned) but the battery IS NOT HOT and is well ventelated as is my main notebook computer.
If you look at the construction of any Dell notebook between June 2004 and July 2006, you might see that the battery is in an area that is not near the heat sink (the cooling fan) nor is there a heat pipe (a path that acts like an exaust pipe to channel the heat from the other component) out of the machine. It wasn't until 2003 that computer designers figured out the more heat that was generated by the computer, the more likely they were going to need to arrange thing such that the computer does not overheat. The Processor is the part of the computer that generates the most heat, hence why the heat sinck sits on top of it.
It is simpile physics. The more power is used, the more energy is spend, the more heat that is created, the more hot air that needs to be flushed out and cool air brought in.
Maybe I'll work on a diagram explaining all that later. For now, I think this would make a great sticker to put on a laptop.

The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
